It will be held tomorrow (Sunday 9 June 2024). 53rd edition of the Milan-Sanremo cyclosportive randonnée. I’m on the way approximately 600 competitors expected, many of whom come from abroad. More than half of the cyclists at the start (56%) will in fact be foreigners, representing 27 nations. The event is in fact now a point of reference for all cycling enthusiasts at an international level. Among the most represented foreign countries are: France (86 athletes), Germany (46), the Netherlands (34), Belgium (27), Switzerland (26), Great Britain (23), Spain (18). The event will also have a tourist impact for the area, given that many participants will remain in Sanremo until at least Monday.
The route of the non-competitive amateur Milan-Sanremo retraces the 300 kilometers that separate Milan from Sanremo, trying to travel the same roads as the spring Classicissima.
The Granfondo will start at 7 am from the Hotel Ibis Style Settala in Milan. Having traveled the flat stretch along the S35 crossing Pavia and Voghera, the participants will leave Lombardy and enter Piedmont, passing through Tortona and Novi Ligure. The participants will continue to Acqui Terme and enter Liguria in Sassello, facing the Colle del Giovo, to arrive on the Riviera di Ponente in Albissola. From here, after approx. 200 km from the start, you will take the Aurelia state road in the direction of Sanremo. From Albisola, in a flat stretch of about 60 km you will cross the towns of Savona, Spotorno, Finale Ligure, Pietra Ligure, Albenga until you reach Alassio. The series of three capes, Capo Mele, Capo Cervo and Capo Berta will be the first Ligurian asperities to face along the route which will cross the municipalities of Andora, Cervo, Diano Marina and Imperia.
This will lead to San Lorenzo al Mare and the last 30 kilometers to tackle first the Cipressa climb (5.6 km at 4.1%), then that of Poggio di Sanremo (3.7 km at 3.7% gradient average with peaks of 8%), and then descends towards the center of Sanremo, with the finish line in Corso Salvo D’Acquisto, where participants are expected to start arriving from 2.45pm (Pasta Party and showers at Villa Ormond).
