Of course, very certain… or rather probable. It is a tribute to the journalist and writer Ennio Flaiano (Pescara, 1910 – Rome, 1972) and the famous paradox with which he highlighted the labile boundary between the true and the false PAINTERS OF ITALY. Young, very young… or rather maturewhich in the spaces of Antonio Colombo Contemporary Art in Milan presents – until 19 July 2024 – the works of 12 artists who work with the pictorial medium, from figuration to abstraction.

“Painters of Italy”. A current exhibition
Painting in Italy has become current again and this is demonstrated by the numerous exhibitions in art galleries and recent institutional exhibitions. “The problem of painting (the most difficult art there is)”, he wrote Giorgio de Chirico,”it cannot be resolved with chatter and trifles”. Therefore, the pictorial practice, for a selection of today’s painters, should be based on qualitative assumptions.
The “Painters of Italy” exhibition in Milan. The selection
“The selected artists come from various regions of Italy, some have lived or live abroad, demonstrating that if an Italic genome of painting exists, it can only be spurious, contaminated, hybrid. No genius loci can describe the complex circumstances that contributed to their formation. Fortunately, no painter whose art is intimately Italian has ever had to show a certificate of citizenship“, tells Ivan Quaroni.
