Reggio Emilia Francesco Riillo, the man who was driving the Iveco van which in the late afternoon of November 17 last year lost the load of scaffolding which pierced the two young people, has been released. Hicham Outtas, 21, and Anuar Mastaki, 19. A third young man was also involved in the crash and was seriously injured.

In fact, the terms for the precautionary measure have expired and Riillo, six months after the date of the arrest, is free again. From the fatal crash to today, the man has spent a few months in prison and another period under house arrest. Now the defense, represented by the lawyer Federico Bertani, is waiting for the trial hearing date to be set. Riillo was tracked down by investigators after fleeing following the car accident, which occurred in Caprara di Campegine. The three friends were aboard a Citroen Picasso and were traveling on the provincial road 111, the axis that connects the Calerno roundabout, on the Via Emilia, with the A1 toll booth.

The Iveco truck, loaded with construction scaffolding, was traveling in the opposite direction. The material fell out of the bed and ended up on the road, literally crushing the car in which the three friends were. The driver fled without rendering aid. The police picked him up at home shortly after the accident, after the cameras with the OCR system managed to identify the license plate and get his name: he was Francesco Riillo, born in the province of Crotone and resident in Montecchio, at the time of the accident without a license because it had already been revoked last August for driving under the influence. Riillo refused to undergo an alcohol test. The Review Court, in recent months, rejected the release request presented for Riillo, establishing that he should have remained in cell. Taking a step back, when the arrest was validated, judge Andrea Rat ordered Francesco Riillo to remain in prison, rejecting the request for house arrest made by the defence. The alleged crime against the man is multiple road homicide with the aggravating circumstances of fleeing and driving without a licence. l © ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
