The elections will measure the political temperature of the 27 Member States on crucial issues such as climate change and the future of the European Green Deal, economic recovery after COVID-19, migration and the Union’s role on the world stage.

The stakes are high for whoever takes the helm of the European institutions in Brussels, including the Commission and the Council, determining the political course of the European Union over the next five years.

What happened in the first two days of the elections

47 percent of Dutch voters voted on Thursday (6 June), with the right-wing PVV party expected to gain the most seats compared to the previous election, at least according to exit polls, going from one seat to seven – but the coalition green-socialist would have obtained eight seats, according to exit polls.

At least three Dutch parties have said their websites have been hit by cyberattacks claimed by a pro-Russian hacking group.
