Naples, illegal disposal of industrial waste: a warehouse seized

During the checks carried out, the operatives of the operational unit Environmental Protection of the Local Police of Naples, together with the personnel of the Army and the ABC company, found a company in the area of Escape which carried out chrome plating and polishing operations on artefacts using professional instruments and chemical substances (such as nitric-sulfuric acid – additives for the galvanisation of metallic materials).

The officers surprised the conductor of the exercise while he was dipping, with the help of an employee, some metal grates in tanks containing liquid substances from which they emerged gaseous emissionsthe result of uncontrolled chemical reactions.

The substances were disposed of through a system of pipes deemed unsuitable by the investigators (made of PVC) which discharged industrial waste. The warehouse measures approximately 300 square metreswith all the exploitations contained within it, was placed below seizuretogether with numerous cans with residues of substances considered dangerous and harmfulas well as the tanks containing liquids of a chemical nature which will be subjected to careful analysis to establish the degree of danger. Furthermore, further investigations will be carried out to verify compliance with legislation on safety at work. The Judicial Authority was informed of the activity carried out.
