(AGENPARL) – Sat 08 June 2024 Good work.
Siena, 8 June 2024
The project starts from 7 June: “In the footsteps of Mr Herbert”
The Art Gallery of Siena among the stops on the walk in the footsteps of the Polish poet
The National Art Gallery of Siena will also be a stop on the walk dedicated to Zbigniew Herbert, one of the most important Polish authors of the 20th century, who came to Siena and Orvieto in the summer of 1959, hosting a stand in the Renaissance courtyard until November 1st.
On the occasion of the celebrations of the centenary of the poet’s birth, seven stands were set up in the most significant places of the two Italian cities to create a walk in the footsteps of the poet who immortalized his stay in Italy in the essays “Il Duomo” and “Siena” from collection “A barbarian in the garden”.
Each of them presents a short biographical text and a quote (in Italian and English), which can be heard by reading a QR code.
The other stands in Siena are located in Palazzo Pubblico, Santa Maria della Scala and Fortezza Medicea.
The project was carried out by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute as part of the celebrations of the centenary of the birth of Zbigniew Herbert (with the official patronage of UNESCO), in collaboration with the Polish Institute of Rome and the Municipal Offices of Siena and Orvieto and it will remain open to the public until November 1, 2024.
