“Cagliari thinks back to Gotti”. This is the headline of L’Unione Sarda in the sports pages. Donadoni’s former deputy has not yet renewed his contract with Lecce. He continues the search for Ranieri’s heir: Nicola (Empoli) also likes him.
According to Alberto Masu, it is not excluded that president Giulini and sporting director Bonato have already identified the profile for the rossoblù bench, but time and patience will be needed to finalize the operation. This is because he is the same candidate who has not yet resolved his reservations about his future.
Baroni and Vanoli, the first names targeted by the Arossoblù management, have practically settled in: the first is already from Lazio, the second already has an agreement with Toro. So the rossoblù turned more decisively towards other objectives: Luca Gotti of Lecce and Davide Nicola of Empoli. With the salvation acquired, both could benefit from automatic renewal, but it is not certain that these agreements will arrive.
As the Salento president Saverio Sticchi Damiani explained, in fact, “there is no final discussion with the technical area to see if the vision on a sporting level is shared and, if so, we will start again together with him with enthusiasm”. If there is no agreement on future programs, Cagliari is ready to step in, also because they consider Gotti the best profile to replace Ranieri. And the same coach would gladly return to Sardinia, where he was Donadoni’s assistant in the 2010/11 season.
Nicola also remains on Bonato and Giulini’s list, who must deal with the Tuscan club before deciding his future, also because in the meantime the club’s sporting director has changed, with Accardi making way for Gemmi.
