Piedmont regional elections, at the polls on 8 and 9 June: what and how to vote

Possible run-off on 23 and 24 June

8 June 2024

On 8 and 9 June in Piedmont we will vote for the regional elections: citizens are called to renew the Regional Council and elect the President of the Region, in conjunction with the European and administrative elections. The polls will be open Saturday 8 June from 3pm to 11pm and Sunday 9 June from 7am to 11pm: therefore two days, to allow the greatest possible influx of people.

There are 801 administrations to be renewed, of which 18 municipalities have over 15 thousand inhabitants (and therefore with the possibility of going to a run-off if no candidate obtains 50% plus one of the preferences). Polls also open in three provincial capitals: Biella, Verbania and Vercelli. A total of approximately 3 million and 600 thousand voters. The possible runoff will be on June 23 and 24.

The voter can express his preference only for the constituency list or only for presidential candidate and its regional list. Or for both. You can also vote for a district list or express your preference for one or two candidates from the same list: if you opt for this choice, the vote will also be considered expressed in favor of the connected presidential candidate and his regional list. Otherwise, you can vote for a presidential candidate and for his regional list, by tracing a sign on his name or on the symbol of the regional list and for a district list connected to him. Or, for the presidential candidate alone and for his regional list: in this case the vote is not considered to be expressed also in favor of the connected district list or lists.

Split voting permitted: you can vote for a presidential candidate and for his regional list and for an unrelated constituency list, by making a mark on the marker. They can be expressed up to two preferences who must be of the opposite sex to the first, under penalty of cancellation of the double preference. Thanks to the new regional electoral law, in fact, for the first time gender equality will have to be respected both in the formation of lists and during voting.

Among the main presidential candidates are the outgoing governor of the Region, Alberto Cirio, supported by the entire center-right coalition. For the centre-left there is a field Gianna Pentenero, current councilor for Labor in Turin of the Lo Russo council. The candidate for the 5 Star Movement is Sarah Disabato, current group leader in the Piedmont Region. Then Francesca Fredianihead of an independent left-wing list and Alberto Costanzofor Freedom.
