Reggiana, a bench for three coaches

The race for the Reggiana bench is like a Formula One grand prix: it will take place over the weekend, with the decision, however, being made on Monday or Tuesday. He is always in pole position: Fabio Caserta, spotted on Wednesday at the Mediopadana (but at the moment he is no longer in Reggio Emilia). This grand prix, however, is very different from that of the Principality of Monaco, where on 26 May Charles Leclerc triumphed (at his home) with Ferrari: in Monaco, in fact, overtaking is rare (not to say non-existent), but in “our” race they should not be excluded. In fact, the candidacies of Ignazio Abate and Marco Zaffaroni are very strong. They are all profiles that Granata sporting director Marcello Pizzimenti really likes. An armchair for three, one might say. In this race other names are a little more secluded, although it is good to remember that the streets of the market are infinite. William Viali will leave Cosenza, but Reggio does not seem to be in his future (in Calabria he was chosen by director Roberto Gemmi, who will go to Empoli); Roberto Breda, who coached Ternana, slipped away and was relegated to C. Alberto Aquilani is liked: he will interrupt the relationship with Pisa, but many teams, including Salernitana and Cagliari, are eyeing him (and Fiorentina wanted him). Massimo Donati, who coached Legnago, and Cristian Bucchi (last experience in Ascoli in 2023) close this list. However, we return to the lead of the race: Caserta, Abate or Zaffaroni, always barring unexpected overtaking. The first, 45 years old, won two Serie C championships with Juve Stabia and Perugia, playing Serie B with Juve Stabia, Benevento, and Cosenza in the last season (sacked with the team at 34 points after 29 rounds, largely safe). The Granata management could sink the blow in these hours. Ignazio Abate is liked a lot: even younger (37 years old), he has decided to leave the Milan Primavera for the “grown-ups”. There is also respect for Marco Zaffaroni: decidedly more experienced (55 years old), he was unable to save a still combative FeralpiSalò. Meanwhile the domino of the benches continues: Lazio has closed for Marco Baroni (he was very close to Monza, but the resignation of Igor Tudor from Lazio actually pushed Baroni towards the capital and therefore Nesta towards Galliani). Alessio Dionisi is officially the new coach of Palermo. We have to wait for the official documents in our house: Nesta and Reggiana are working to resolve the contract (yesterday Adriano Galliani, among other things, spoke at the presentation of the book ‘There’s only one president’ by Carlo Pellegatti and Peppe Di Stefano, saying: “Nesta is a member of Reggiana, let’s leave him alone and then we’ll see. Of course, there is this thing that certain loves don’t end…”), and then he will be announced by Monza. Meanwhile Caserta will defend pole, with Abate and Zaffaroni above all on their heels.
