COSENZA – 2024 administrative elections are here. In conjunction with the European and regional elections in Piedmont, there is also a vote to renew 3,715 municipal administrations throughout Italy. In Calabria there are 135 municipalities voting: 19 municipalities voting in the province of Catanzaro, 65 in the province of Cosenza, 11 in the province of Crotone, 13 in that of Vibo Valentia and, finally, 27 in the province of Reggio Calabria. At the polling station with an identity document and voter card
To vote you need to go to your polling station (indicated on the electoral card) and show the scrutineers two documents:

2024 administrative elections: voting in municipalities under 15 thousand inhabitants
The election of the mayor and the municipal council in municipalities with up to 15,000 inhabitants is carried out with the dry majority system on the basis of which the list that obtains the most votes wins. It’s used a single card to elect both the mayor and the city councilors. On the card it is gThe name of the mayoral candidate is already printed, with the mark of the only list that supports him next to it. He is elected sindigo the candidate who obtains the highest number of votes. In case of equality of votes between two candidates we will return to voting for the latter the June 9th (ballot). Also in this case, whoever obtains the most votes of the two will be elected. In the event of a further tie, the eldest is declared elected.
Every voter can:
- To track a mark only on the candidate for mayor; in this case the vote is attributed only to the candidate for mayor
- Make a mark only on the linked list to the candidate for mayor. In this case the vote is attributed to both the list and the mayoral candidate
- Make a mark both on the symbol of the list that supports a mayoral candidateand on the name of the candidategiving the vote to both.
It is not possible to vote for a candidate for the office of mayor other than the one linked to the list. The votes obtained by the candidate for the office of mayor are attributed to the list connected to him.
Preference in municipalities under 5,000 inhabitants
For municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants, you can express your preference for a candidate for the municipal council by writing the surname in the appropriate line printed under the list symbol.
Double preference in municipalities between 5,000 and 10,000 inhabitants
In municipalities with a population between 5,000 and 15,000 inhabitants, each voter can express, in the appropriate lines printed under the same mark, one or two preferences for city council candidates. If there are two, they must concern candidates of different sexes from the same list, under penalty of cancellation of the second preference.
When the voter omits the vote on the list mark, but correctly expresses the preference vote for a candidate for councillor, it is considered validly voted:
- the list to which the voted candidate belongs
- the candidate for councilor voted
- the mayoral candidate, connected with the list to which the councilor candidate belongs
The vote for the mayoral candidate is also valid as a vote for the connected list. In municipalities under 15,000 inhabitants the so-called “split vote” is not foreseen. To the list of candidates for city councilor sAs many votes are assigned as the number of votes obtained by the related mayoral candidate. The distribution of seats among the lists of candidates is carried out after the announcement of the mayoral election. Two thirds of the seats assigned to the council are attributed to the list linked to the elected mayor. The remaining seats are distributed proportionally among the other lists. In the event that only one list has been admitted or presented, the election is valid if the list and the mayor connected to it have obtained a number of valid votes of not less than 40% of the voters and the number of voters has not been less than 40% of the voters registered in the electoral lists of the Municipality. If these percentages have not been reached, the election is null and void.
2024 administrative elections: voting in municipalities over 15 thousand inhabitants
The mayor is elected by universal and direct suffrage, at the same time as the election of the municipal council and with sabsolute majority systemso the candidate for mayor who obtains 50% plus one of the valid votes is the winner. If no candidate reaches this quorum, we move on to the second round which takes place, non the second Sunday following that of the first between the two candidates who received the highest number of votes. For the candidates admitted to the run-off round, the connections with the lists for the election of the council declared in the first round remain unchanged. However, these have the right, within seven days of the first vote, to declare the connection with lists other than those of the first round.
Let’s vote on a single blue cardwhich will already contain the names of the candidates for the office of mayor and, under each of them, the symbol or symbols of the lists that support him.
There are three voting possibilities:
It can be traced a single mark on a list symbol. In this way, your preference is assigned to the marked list and to the mayoral candidate supported by the latter
To track a sign only on the name of the mayoral candidatethus voting only for the Mayoral candidate and not for the list or lists connected to the latter
Split vote
To track a mark on a list symbol, simultaneously tracing a sign on the name of a mayoral candidate not connected to the voted list: by doing so, the so-called ‘split vote’ is obtained.
Each voter can also express, in the appropriate lines next to the list symbol, one or two preferential votes for municipal councillorswriting the name and surname or just the surname of no more than two candidates included in the list voted for by him. In the case of expressing two preferences, they must concern ccandidates of different sexes from the same listunder penalty of cancellation of the second preference.
It is not possible to vote for two different mayoral candidates or two different lists that do not support the same mayor. Any other sign or writing on the ballot will lead to the vote being cancelled.
