“Legality is a value”

Since yesterday, the square in front of the barracks of the Luino company of the Guardia di Finanza has been called “Largo Fiamme Gialle d’Italia”. The dedication took place as part of the events for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the body. The ceremony began with the rendering of honors to the provincial commander of the Guardia di Finanza of Varese, Brigadier General Crescenzo Sciaraffa, who then highlighted how the square, symbol of the bond between the Fiamme Gialle Luino and the community, constitutes a gift and a metaphor of union for future generations. Listening to him together with the authorities were the younger ones, with a group of students from the Bernardino Luini primary school and the Carlo Volontè high school. After the flag raising to the tune of the Mameli anthem sung by the “Città di Luino” choir and performed by the students with the Lis, the mayor Enrico Bianchi spoke.

“The Largo Fiamme Gialle d’Italia – he said – will be a place of memory and reflection, where each of us will be able to remember the importance of legality. A central place of our city, it will also be a point of reference for future generations so that can understand the value of commitment to the common good”. Godmother of the ceremony Sabine Pabich, representing the family of Major Gioachino Silani, an officer of the corps who fell in service on Lake Maggiore in 1913, after whom the barracks is named. The highlight was the unveiling of the plaque followed by the blessing of the square by the parish administrator of Luino Don Daniele Bai. Then the choir sang the “Lord of the Peaks” in memory of the missing Fiamme Gialle and the students of the Luini school paid homage to the body by reading a song entitled “Letter from a son to his financier father”. The event ended inside the venue, where the works of some local artists were exhibited for the occasion, including two financiers on leave.
