Vandals once again in action in right in the center of Salerno. The playground reserved for children is once again targeted in Piazza della Libertà, immediately after the Crescent. Since Thursday evening, the rides were completely out of order and uprooted and – as shown by some photos and videos reported by citizens – have also become dangerous for users who wanted to enjoy moments of relaxation with the family outdoors in these hours. Broken wood, broken wires, swings that are no longer usable: these are the results of the damage that affected the small but very popular play area which in the evening is also occupied by older children. Two waste bins were also damaged and were completely overturned and moved from where they had been placed. Many photos went around the web and social media, especially among Salerno residents who condemned the gesture. But it’s not the first time, on the contrary. The area is often targeted, amid incivility and little respect for a common and public good. The report arrived directly at Municipality of Salerno: the technicians already consulted with the workers of the public maintenance sector will go to the site on Monday morning to put the equipment back together and to guarantee decorum to the area again. It is to make an appeal to the citizens the councilor for urban planning and commerce Dario Loffredo, informed of the matter: «We are now forced to intervene on a monthly basis to fix the rides in the play area located near the Crescent – Loffredo remarked – we absolutely need to install surveillance cameras at that point and we are taking action. The problem is that families and older children use the rides that are for the little ones, breaking them. On the one hand we will fix them again and remedy them but on the other we appeal to civic sense especially among teenagers. We must preserve the beautiful things of the city: certainly we must strengthen supervision and controls but families should also monitor what the children do. It is a place frequented by children, we need to take more care of the common good. We should all be proud of what has been done.” But the square in front of the hemicycle and also the sub-square have certainly become a meeting place and hub of the Salerno nightlife and a tourist attraction, especially in the summer period, but unfortunately also a “pastime” for kids who make incivility their modus vivendi.

Between writings with spray cans on the walls and waste left on the stairs that connect the car park to the square and the square to the sub-square where there are numerous rooms, every month the maintenance workers of theinstitution in via Roma they are forced to work to clean, restore and take action to ensure decorum for the place and for those who frequent the suggestive sea view area.
