Municipal elections 2024, in Perugia it will be head to head. And the green heart will have a mayor

Perugia, 8 June 2024 – In Umbria eyes are on Perugiaand in particular on two women – Margherita Scocciafor the center-right, e Vittoria Ferdinandi, for the center-left and Cinquestelle – who will compete for the position of mayor of the Umbrian capital. It’s the first time the city will have one mayorgiven that the other candidates will fight as hard as they can to win a seat in the City Council.

But they are 60 (out of 92) the municipalities of Umbria voting today and tomorrow for administrative, 53 of which have under 15 thousand inhabitants. And then tomorrow evening six small municipalities (Arrone, Costacciaro, Fossato di Vico, Ficulle, Lugnano in Teverina and Monteleone d’Orvieto) could already have a mayor: here there is only one candidate and if 50% + 1 go to the polls of voters, the election will be automatic.

It is officially in Perugia five-man race for the succession of Andrea Romizi, the Forza Italia lawyer who won the municipality that has always been a stronghold of the left for the center-right ten years ago. 19 lists and 569 aspiring councilors are competing: they will compete 32 seats.

In addition to Scoccia and Ferdinandi, they are in the running Massimo Monni with ‘Perugia Merita’, supported by Psi, Italia Viva and Tempi Nuovi-Popolari Uniti; Leonardo Caponi with the symbol of the PCI, to which the writing “Perugia against war and neoliberalism” has been added; the former midfielder of Perugia, Catania and Juventus, Davide Baiocco, which can count on “Forza Perugia” and “Alternativa Riformista-Italexit”. The political novelty of Perugia is precisely the very wide field, Verona style, which appears compact and has reopened a game that this winter seemed closed in favor of the centre-right. He will probably be neck and neck, but not with an obvious run-off, precisely because the three outsiders could only pick up the crumbs.

And the Perugian match will be decisive in a regional key: in October Umbria will choose its new president and the capital has always been the tipping point for the Region.

Voting too Foligno, third largest city in Umbria. The outgoing mayor, Stephen Zuccarini (Lega), is running again and will be challenged by Mauro Masciotti (wide field expression), Enrico Presilla And Moreno Finamonti.

Elections also to Norciawhere, out of 3,500 voters, there are four candidates for mayor: the former mayor Nicola Alemanno, suspended until now, acquitted on appeal of the crime of abuse of office for which he had been convicted in the first instance in the case of the Pro loco house. The acquittal for the abuse of office ended Alemanno’s suspension from the role of mayor which had been automatically triggered by the Severino law.

His deputy is also on the field Giuliano Boccanerawho had assumed the role after Alemanno’s suspension, Francesco Filippi And Cristina Sensi. We also vote for Bastia Umbra, Marsciano, Gubbio (six aspiring mayors). In the province of Terni 21 municipalities are voting: the largest is Orvieto, where there are four candidates for mayor: the outgoing Roberta Tardani Fi), Stefano Biagioli, Giordano Conticelli and Roberta Palazzetti.
