The elections

The domino effect for low compensation

From Editorial board | 07 June 2024

The poor compensation for the electoral round of the European elections in 37 municipalities on the island has a domino effect on the presidency and on the scrutineers who will be busy from this morning at 9am (i.e. from when the seats will be set up) until tomorrow night for the municipalities in in which we vote for the European elections. A very different situation in the 37 centers where citizens are called to renew both the mayor and the city council. To find out the results of the administrative elections, we will have to wait until Monday afternoon (for small municipalities) and late at night in the municipalities of Caltanissetta and Gela, the two largest centers called to vote.

A few hours after the polls were set up in Palermo, many gave up their role as scrutineers. Out of 2,400 people drawn, over 1,700 renounced the letters of appointment sent by the municipal police officers. A lot of work, two uninterrupted days of voting and the counting for 110 euros and many said the nomination was sent back. Tomorrow morning you will be able to show up at schools to take up your assignment, but the risk is that the chaos that occurred in the 2022 elections could be repeated, when in addition to the scrutineers, many polling station presidents were also missing.

The municipality’s electoral office has been working for months trying to form polling stations. This year too, employees have had to deal with too many sacrifices. Work is continuing to cover the holes in the 600 sections, which are still many. In 2002, 174 scrutineers and polling station presidents did not show up at the polling stations. Among these, 60 were then reported because it was discovered that they preferred Palermo-Padova, the playoff final, to the voting operations, which guaranteed promotion to Serie B for the Rosanero scheduled for the evening of 12 June 2022.COPYRIGHT LASICILIA.IT © ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
