Massimo Ferrarese ‘pushes’ Taranto towards Castellaneta

‘I work to identify a secondary plant, even if it goes beyond my duties’

Massimo Ferrarese, commissioner of the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games

(By Tany Nardo) Starting next season, Taranto Calcio will be forced to play away from the city of the two seas for two consecutive championships. The renovation works of the Erasmo Iacovone stadium, in preparation for the 2026 Mediterranean Games, will begin in November.

Massimo Ferrarese, extraordinary commissioner, discussed the possible alternative venues for Taranto’s matches in the 2024/2025 season in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

Referring to potential solutions to the Salinella district facility, he stated: “When we commissioned the project, initially worth 28 million euros and now over 50 million, we recommended allowing Taranto to play even during the works. This it is our desire, but the final decision lies with the municipality and the prefecture, whose opinions are binding. By July, the works on the stadium in the Salinella district will be put to tender. In the meantime, I am also working on identifying a secondary facility if it goes beyond my tasks, the alternatives are Castellaneta and Massafra, with the former having a higher probability.
