Imbersago: woman accidentally falls into the Adda. Carabiniere Gianluca Calì saves her with two passing boys

Large deployment of emergency vehicles shortly after 2pm today on the Imbersago riverside, at the ferry dock, and on the other bank, in Villa d’Adda, for a 67-year-old woman who accidentally fell into the river from the Lecco bank while, apparently, he was feeding the ducks.

The first to assist the woman and actually save her life was Carabiniere Gianluca Calì, who was on the riverside doing physical activity. Having heard the lady’s screams and noticed that the current was dragging her away, the soldier took off his shoes and threw himself into the water to try to reach her. In the meantime, two young people came to the rescue and made a rowing boat docked there available. The woman was rescued a few hundred meters further on.

In the meantime, passers-by, both from Imbersago and Villa d’Adda, saw the scene and called 112. Fire fighters began to arrive from Merate, Lecco and Dalmine with trucks, off-road vehicles, dinghys and jet skis, as well as divers and the helicopter that rose into the sky from Malpensa. Ambulances, medical vehicles and Carabinieri patrols also arrived on site. Once they reached the woman and whoever saved her, the medics stabilized her in the ambulance and transported her to the hospital in Lecco under yellow code. The lady was conscious, albeit cold.

The ambulance left, the emergency vehicles and the Carabinieri remained on site. In fact, it seems that during the commotion someone said that there was a child with the lady. Having made the necessary checks and explored the river, it was then found that the woman was alone and that her fall was accidental.

A heroic act, therefore, that of the chosen Carabiniere Gianluca Calì (forced by the mobile radio unit of the Merate Company), who already on a November evening in 2013 together with Brigadier Vincenzo Di Matteo had saved the life of a 46-year-old man who was attempting of throwing himself from the Paderno bridge. That gesture it earned the two soldiers a commendation awarded on the occasion of the 201st year of the foundation of the Carabinieri (2015).
