LECCE – The outgoing mayor Carlo Salvemini tries again for the third time, after two victories over the centre-right: in the evening he appeared on stage with all the representatives of the lists that support him. The workhorse is the budget, restored with future generations in mind, covering over 100 million of debt. “Rather than sun and clouds, we all remember the suffocating cloud of favors and favoritism. Ours is a collective project: the citizens of Lecce will not be fooled. This right is only hungry for power” – attacks Pierpaolo Patti (Italian Left), former opponent of the outgoing mayor in the primaries. Two important regional councilors on stage: Sebastiano Leo and Alessandro Delli Noci, the latter with the representatives of the two 4 lists (made up of 128 candidates). Delli Noci is the man of the turning point, former center-right councilor of former mayor Perrone (which today brands as a “system of power”), who made a winning pact with Emiliano. Today the councilor for economic development he criticizes the centre-right for what it deems fake news, for having talked about the hydrogen port and the “expulsion of the centre-left”. “We will close the electoral campaign in the first round” – promises Delli Noci.
“We took care of public resources by restoring a budget that risked blowing us up” – explains the outgoing mayor Carlo Salvemini. The mayor recalls the recovery of the subsidiaries, the efforts made on an economic level, the door-to-door collection service throughout Lecce (70.16%). Then he recalls the funds received to eliminate 100 tons of asbestos. The mayor boasts of the demolition of illegal buildings, the latest being that of the Lido Rella in Frigole and the Municipal Coastal Plan, “which is a dynamic management and protection tool, to guarantee that the balance between the public and private beaches”. They are also on the field the 50 million euros for the regeneration of the coastal landscapes of Lecce, “to make Lecce the new Barcelona of the Mediterranean”. “We waved the Blue flag over San Cataldo – continues the mayor – We are not ashamed to participate in ‘Pride’”. Then Salvemini defends the cycle paths, criticized for the architectural barriers, for some canceled parking and for the narrowing of the carriageways: “We have guaranteed safety and European and innovative mobility”. There is also a mention of the Ogni Bene Library, another strong point. Then the blow to the national centre-right criticizing differentiated autonomy because it makes territories already in economic difficulty more fragile.
