The Municipality of Bergamo removes its patronage from Pride: “Intolerant demonstration towards Israel”

The Municipality of Bergamo revoked the patronage which for several years now has been granting to Pride scheduled for next June 15th in the city center. A decision motivated by the fact that – explains the Council – “the association has transformed the initiative from an event in favor of civil rights, against any discrimination of sexual freedoms in a demonstration in favor of the Palestinian people, characterized by traits of intolerance that cannot be accepted. The decision was made reluctantly, after repeated attempts to bring the event back to its original contents.”

At the origin of the Government’s about-face a social posts of the association that organizes the event, which reads: “Bergamo Pride communicates that in the square of 15 June Israeli flags will not be welcomed or tolerated or praising the symbols connected to the state of Israel”, complete with an appeal “for an immediate ceasefire, the release of the hostages, the recognition of the state of Palestine and the peaceful resolution of the conflict”.

The Municipality had met the organizers, asking to return to a position of greater balance, but getting a denial. So today the patronage was revoked. TheItaly Israel Cultural Association of Bergamowho said she was “forced to intervene, given the serious situation act of intolerance and of anti-Semitism announced by the organizers of Pride in Bergamo”.
