“Insecure eye for his re-nomination”

“I have read extremely carefully the statements released by the Governor of Calabria Roberto Occhiuto in an electoral demonstration in Vibo and reported by the media. I congratulate him because no one can teach him anything about self-esteem. However, I don’t understand why he feels the need to announce his candidacy for the presidency of the regional council, despite the fact that the next elections will take place towards the end of 2026. His repeated declarations seem to express either insecurity towards his re-nomination or awareness of the critical issues that characterize its current government action”. This is what the mayor states Franz Caruso who continues: “In the meantime, we take note of your admission regarding the guilty delays with reference to the extremely critical conditions experienced by the Calabrian healthcare system, of which you are commissioner ad acta. In addition to asking for more time for his government, he then tries to pass the buck to the Mayors regarding the inefficiencies found in waste disposal. The latter sector is in constant trouble, despite the painful return to authorized landfills, many of which, moreover, are located among our wonderful mountains and deface the environmental landscape. The President also boasts of Arrical, forgetting that it has been under the administration of a commissioner, with repeated extensions, since its establishment, while it should be equipped with representative and regulatory bodies, made up of representatives of the Municipalities. I am silent, but only for the love of my country, on the digs aimed at his opponents, of which I am honored to be part, especially with respect to the innate ability of our President to support the Meloni Government regardless of the needs and requirements of our people. In particular with respect to issues of absolute importance for the future of Calabria and the country such as the Premiership, which represents a clear threat to the democracy guaranteed today by our Constitutional Charter, and such as the unfortunate reform on Differentiated Autonomy, which Roberto Occhiuto voted for in State-Region Conference betraying the Calabrians like the senators of our land, with the exception of Nicola Irto. On this basis, governor Occhiuto asks for the vote for the European elections and announces his re-nomination, demonstrating, once again, that he is pursuing a policy built on slogans rather than on commitment and coherence”.
