«The Government cuts 600 thousand euros destined for Varese»

Matteo Capriolo

This Government is back to putting hands in the pockets of Italians. It does so with 600 thousand euros of cuts to the current expenditure of our Municipality, included in the latest decree, which will be applied more to the virtuous local authorities that have obtained greater funding from the PNRR. These are, therefore, all those Municipalities that have stood out for having brought a greater number of European resources to their territory to create schools, canteens, spaces for young people, purchase electric buses, improve the energy efficiency of buildings, build sports facilities and all those works to make cities grow. In fact, these are just some of the initiatives we are carrying out in Varese after having provided the city with PNRR resources, works already at an advanced stage of implementation.

There are therefore two serious pieces of news: the first is that the Government returns to putting its hands in citizens’ pockets. Because the current expenditure of the Municipalities means services, educators in kindergartens, it means being able to maintain low tariffs such as those for canteens for example. All expenses that Municipalities face with great difficulty, particularly after the last difficult post-pandemic years.

But the second serious, and also paradoxical, news is that Governa intends punish – because this method really seems like a punishment – all those virtuous citizens who managed to obtain more resources from the PNRR. In short, terrible management by this Government which increases everything, cuts resources to local authorities intended for services for families and citizens, and punishes the most virtuous municipalities.
