There were 52 workplace victims in Lombardy in the first quarter of 2024: +6.1% compared to 2023. The region remains in the yellow zone with a mortality rate (7.3) lower than the national average (8.7). Mantua, on the other hand, is in the red zone with a mortality rate of 11 per million employed.
Fatal accidents: victims in Lombardy
“We have reached the end of the first quarter of 2024 and Lombardy, as often happens, finds itself wearing the black jersey for the number of deaths at work. There were 52 victims at the end of April. But the numbers of deaths, as we know, must be compared to the working population, which in Lombardy is the largest compared to all the other regions. And in fact, when we talk about mortality risk compared to the working population the result changes and Lombardy is still included in the yellow zonewith an incidence of fatal accidents lower than the national average”.

Unfortunately, this positive data is not found in all the provinces of the region: Brescia, Sondrio, Pavia and Mantua present a high risk of fatal injury higher than the national average until arriving, in the case of Brescia, at 18.2 fatal accidents per million employed”.

To identify the most fragile areas of Italy and the region in terms of safety at work, the Mestre Observatory develops a risk mapping compared to the mortality rate.
There yellow areathe one in which Lombardy is located, is the area that, immediately after the white one, groups together the regions with the incidence of mortality at work is among the lowest at a national level. And at the end of April 2024, the risk of fatal injury in Lombardy (7.3 deaths per million employed) was lower than the national average of 8.7.
As regards the incidences, in detail, in the region it turns out that they are Brescia, Sondrio, Pavia and Mantua to find oneself in “red zone” with an incidence respectively of 18.2, 13.4, 12.7 And 11.0. They are followed in the area orange from Monza and Brianza (9.9) and in the area white from most of the Lombardy provinces with mortality risks well below the regional and national average, starting with Cremona (6.5), Varese (5.1), Milan (4.6), Bergamo (4.1) and Como (3.8).
The data

It’s 13,920 le injury reports from working women (11,095 on the occasion of work) and 23,876 those of men (20,815 on the occasion of work). Two women lost their lives on the occasion of work.
The complaints from foreign workers they are 9,006 out of 37,796 (almost 25%). And there are 7,512 complaints from foreign workers registered during work.
I am 13 foreign workers died in the first quarter of 2024 on the occasion of work. Almost 40% of the region’s victims.
