Florence, 12 June 2024 – Tuscany records a significant increase in exports during the first quarter of 2024, with an overall value of 15.064 billion of Euro. Digit representing a increase of 4.4% compared to the same period of the previous year. The data come from the latest ISTAT report on exports in the Italian regions and indicate a positive trend for Tuscany, in contrast with the 10% drop recorded in Center of Italy.

The growing sectors

The region demonstrates economic dynamism despite difficulties in some sectors. Exports of sporting goods, games, musical instruments, valuables and medical instruments increased by 100%. Even the sector pharmaceutical saw a significant leap with an increase of 44.5%, while exports of machinery and appliances they grew by 41.4%. The fooda key sector for the region, recorded an increase of 25%.

Fashion suffers

Despite the overall positive data, fashion has suffered a strong negative impact. The export of leather items recorded a decline of 20.6%, and exports towards Swissa major logistics hub for the major fashion houses, collapsed by 67.5%.

Boom in exports to Turkey

Exports to non-EU countries grew by 8%, while those to EU countries suffered a slight decline of 0.7%. A particularly relevant fact is the growth of 234% of exports to Türkiye, driven mainly by sales of small parts, jewelery and precious metals. Also exports to the United States increased significantly, with +50%, followed by OPEC countrieswhich saw an increase of 33%.

Arezzo and Florence are among the provinces where exports are growing the most

In provincial detail, Arezzo and Florence stand out for their positive performances. According to Istat, these provinces, together with Gorizia, Latina and Naples, achieved the best results regarding exports in the first three months of 2024. Arezzo, in particular, benefited from the strong impulse in the precious metalswhile Florence consolidated its position in the sectors pharmaceutical and food.
