Pistoia is a candidate to host Eurogym 2026

PISTOIA – Pistoia’s candidacy to host the fifteenth edition of Eurogymthe biggest European gymnastics event for young people between 12 and 18 years old, which will be held in 2026, was presented during a press conference held at the Chianti Banca headquarters in Largo Treviso.

“It could be – explained the Councilor Alessandro Sabella – an important means of disseminating the city’s image and therefore promoting tourism. It could bring 5 to 6 thousand people to our city on game days. A driving force for development for the territory and the economy”.

And this is why the administration has decided to support this initiative. Initiative also strongly supported by Chianti Banksponsor of the application.

The organizing committee it is chaired by professor Alessandra Mezzacosta who, together with councilor Simone Monaco, will be in Dublin on June 14th and 15th when the technical commission of the European Gymnastics Federation will meet to decide on the assignment.

“The purpose of this type of event – ​​underlined Professor Mazzatosta – is to bring together and bring together many young people who practice all types of sports, not just the competitive and more widespread ones. The program focuses on sporting activities, entertainment, exchanges and meetings between people and young generations.”

If the event is assigned to Pistoia it will take place in July 2026. Participants will be hosted in accommodation set up in schools to participate in various sports workshops/laboratories in the morning and will be involved in cultural and recreational activities. Stages will be set up in various locations in the city for the athletes’ afternoon sports performances. S

Tourist excursions are also planned for participants to discover the beauties of Pistoia and the surrounding area. This year’s edition (the event takes place every two years) will take place in Bodo, Norway. On that occasion, provided that Pistoia has won the competition for the organization of the next edition (2026), the organizing committee will have to be present to take deliveries from the Norwegian city, presenting the mascot of the Pistoia games which the organizers ensure is already ready.
