NON-APPROVED VEHICLES: MORE INFRINGEMENTS IN VERONA

There are several motorists who have interpreted the Supreme Court order on non-approved speed cameras as a green light to violate the speed limits imposed by the highway code.

Last April, in fact, the Supreme Court ruled that speed cameras, despite being approved by the competent ministries, lacked definitive confirmation relating to their compliance with current regulations and, for this reason, any fine for speeding that was recorded was to be consider illegitimate.

And so, the speed cameras installed in the city of Verona recorded a rapid growth in infringements: in the month of May there were 5712, 2210 more than in the month of April.

Road exits caused by speeding also increased accordingly: there were fewer than 10 in 2023, but there are already 5 in May 2024.

The local police commander, Luigi Altamura, says he is worried and reminds all motorists that the speed cameras continue to operate.

In this regard, the Veronese councilor Michele Bertucco points out how the decree reveals a further step backwards in the protection of road safety and in the correct management of mobility in the country.

Although, beyond any ambiguity, which certainly requires rapid clarification, safety on the roads should not be seen as an obligation imposed only by the possibility of receiving a fine, but as a personal commitment towards one’s own safety and that of other road users. street.
