Pedestrianization of Savona, yet another request from the opposition: “The mayor reopens Corso Italia to cars”

Savona. “The mayor reopens Corso Italia to cars“. From the opposition comes yet another request to take a step back on pedestrianization in the sections of Corso Italia affected by the intervention (from the intersection with Via Dei Vegerio to the intersection with Via Pertinace and from the intersection with Via Battisti up to the intersection with Via Paleocapa). The motion, presented by PensieroLibero.zero group leader Fabio Orsi, was signed by all the minority councillors.

“These interventions – it is underlined in the document filed with the Municipality – have worsened in all respects the quality of life of the citizens of Savona since this closure has led to an increase in travel and parking times for cars in transit, in all the directions to be and for the centre, with serious repercussions and slowdowns also on the roads surrounding the central area and on those entering and exiting the Municipality, as well as a probable increase in the concentration of smog, which has never occurred, as well as a limitation of retail trade activities, such as highlighted in many places”

“We do not give up in the face of the evidence of the facts which testify, 16 months later, as the decision taken to close Corso Italia is totally wrong. We ask once again, loudly, that an unfortunate choice be reversed before it is too late and public money is thrown out the window. (900 thousand euros will be spent to redevelop the pedestrianized section of Corso Italia, of which 500 thousand from regional funds and 400 thousand from the municipality) which fortunately this council has found again, but which is spending in the wrong way”, comments the first signatory, Fabio Orsi.

“A new urban mobility plan was commissioned – recalls Orsi – after having already taken the decisions that that very plan should help to make, after technical evaluations and citizen hearings, as the procedure requires. This is all absurd, it’s a joke. The meaning of the PUMS is being completely distorted, making the participation of associations and groups of citizens who can express themselves during the approval phases of the plan absolutely useless. They then tell us that there are no funds for a major renovation plan for gyms, schools and maintenance as the city deserves but huge resources are found ‘to give’ prestige to a road which should instead be returned to its natural use and best enjoyment by citizens”.
