In the splendid setting of the San Mercurio Oratory in Palermo, on the 5th and 6th of June, “The Trojan Women”, a tragedy by Euripides, was performed, performed by the children of the 3rd E, Theater section, of the Liceo Artistico “E. Catalan” of Palermo. The show had already been performed by the same boys at the XXVIII International Festival of Classical Youth Theater at the Akrai theater in Palazzolo Acreide. The San Mercurio oratory is a small artistic jewel adjacent to the church of San Giovanni degli Eremiti, enriched by the wonderful sculptures of the Serpotto school. The use of the oratory was granted by the “Friends of Sicilian Museums” Association. The show, in one act, was masterfully interpreted by the students who demonstrated a pathos and talent that is generally found in expert actors. The emotions conveyed were so strong that at the end the large audience present gave the students a real ovation. The credit, in addition to the passion shown by the children, certainly goes to the “Eustachio Catalano” school and in particular to the teachers Franco Reina, Giuseppe Bisogno and Lilli Ragusa. This theatrical performance, performed by high school students, turned out to be not a banal end-of-year play, but rather a very professional performance, and is yet another demonstration that young people have great potential that must be supported beyond school. It must be the political institutions that seek solutions and create long-term projects to support and bring out the talent of children in any field, artistic, social, sporting, etc. Often, however, talent is suffocated and blocked due to the absolute lack of prospects. And the only solution remains to emigrate abroad. Tell me if this is normal!
