An honorary second level academic diploma in “Clarinet” will be awarded by “Umberto Giordano” conservatory of Foggia to Renzo Arbore. The clarinet – the conservatory says – is the musical instrument that the maestro from Foggia plays, offering his own personal sound, made up of Neapolitan rhythms and jazz-rock. Instrument to which in 1986 the musician also dedicated a renowned and ironic poem swing genre piece of music with which he won second place at the 36th edition of the Sanremo Festival, amidst the ovations of the audience at the Ariston Theatre.

The ceremony and motivation

The honorary academic title will be awarded on Wednesday 12 June with the following motivation: «for having enriched the diffusion of ‘popular’ music, embellished with clarinet solos, within Italian culture, adopting new methods of communication that have always oriented towards happy meeting between culture and popularity, in the name of experimentation with new languages ​​and an uncommon ability to re-propose ways of communication with a new spirit”.

In 2022 the honor of Knight Grand Cross

The attribution of the honorific title to the artist and showman from Foggia, interpreter and disseminator of maximum effectiveness of the sound languages ​​of jazz and pop especially linked to the single reed instrument, among other things an artist already awarded in January 2022 by the president of the Republic Sergio Mattarella ofhonor of “Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic”was decided by the academic council of the conservatory on the unanimous proposal of the music research department.
