Lamezia Terme welcomes 80 young Sicilians for the Genfest

Around 80 young Sicilians will participate in the event from 26 to 30 July Genfest of Lamezia Terme. The young participants come from the provinces of Palermo, Catania, Syracuse, Messina, Trapani. The Genfest, youth demonstration of the Focolare Movementwhich has accompanied its history since 1973will take place this year in Aparecida, Brazil. Young people from various parts of the world will converge there. At the same time, other Genfests will take place in various countries on five continents.

In Italy, the Genfest of Lamezia Termewill see young people from all over converge southern regions, from Sicily and Sardinia. A second Italian Genfest will take place in Loppiano. “Hundreds of young people from different ethnic groups, cultures and religions meet with the aim of building a more united and fraternal world – we read in a statement from the diocese of Lamezia Terme.

“The regions of Southern Italy and Sardinia, in a symbolic relay immediately after the Brazilian event, propose the same initiative at a local level through an immersive and practical path of knowledge of the culture of peace, brotherhood and solidarity. In Lamezia Terme hundreds of young people will have the opportunity to tell their stories, meet the witnesses, live experiences in the realities of the third sector, volunteering and civic commitment”.

The detailed program of the three days, the initiatives and the guests will be announced in the coming weeks. Young Sicilians will be protagonists of a particular moment, a flashmob on the themes of peace and brotherhood, which will take place in a square in Lamezia. Seven young people from Catania, Trecastagni and Pedara have prepared a choreography, to the music of the piece “Turn it up” by the Gen Verde complex.

A video has also been created which will be made available to the young participants in the Genfest and the city of Lamezia for this powerful moment of testimony which will involve everyone. The choreography was created by Letizia Verzì, Gaetano Guarnaccia and Jennifer Formica. The dancers are: Jennifer Formica, Vittoria Nicosia, Valeria Merlo, Rachele Pulvirenti, Roberta Rocca.

The video was edited by Giacomo Maimonewith the collaboration of Mary Sapone. Other young Sicilians will be part of the band that will animate the full immersion for four days in an initiative that – in a difficult moment in the history of humanity – conveys the values ​​of peace and brotherhood.
