Monday 10th June will be 100th anniversary of the kidnapping and killing of the socialist honorable Giacomo MatteottiItalian writer, journalist and politician who, through his parliamentary activity, had denounced the illegalities committed by the nascent fascist dictatorship.

Matteotti’s body was found about two months later and the then head of government, Benito Mussolini, publicly assumed “political, moral and historical responsibility” for the climate in which the assassination had occurred in front of the Chamber of Deputies. .

The Municipality of Faenza and the Presidency of the City Council of the city, on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of those tragic events, organized a series of initiatives by title ‘Matteotti Resists! 100 years of anti-fascism‘.

Monday 10 Juneat 12 o’clockin the church of San Bartolomeoalso known in the city as the Church of the Fallen, which is located in the very street that the city wanted to dedicate to the anti-fascist deputy murdered in 1924, a Press conference to illustrate the installation of descriptive panels of the politician’s life and activity with contents edited by the Institutional Affairs Service and which received the patronage of the National Committee for the Celebrations of the Centenary of the Death of Giacomo Matteotti.

They will be illustrated during the conference other initiatives: the small publicationcreated by the administration, containing historical and artistic notes on the Church of San Bartolomeo and the extraordinary openings of the Church of the Fallen during the ‘Summer Tuesdays’ in addition to guided tour organized internally and conducted by Pro Loco of Faenza.

In the afternoon of Monday 10again in the Church of San Bartolomeo, at 6.30pmthe historian Luca Rosetti will hold the conference historical by title The Matteotti affairas Mussolini himself defined it.
