SICILY – Yesterday the Palermo Station of the Sicilian Alpine and Speleological Rescue and the IV Flight Department of the State Police were engaged in two interventionsone in the afternoon and one in the evening.
Rescue on the island of Vulcano
The first intervention concerned the recovery of a tourist from Lombardy, injured on the island of Vulcano. Around 7.30 pm, alerted by the 118 Operations Centre, the CNSAS technicians, on board the State Police helicopter, left from Boccadifalco airport. Once the accident area had been identified from above along the sides of the Vulcano crater, they were lowered with the winch to the point where the tourist was. The latter, due to a disastrous fall during an excursion, had suffered a suspected fracture in her left leg. After immobilizing the limb, the woman was hoisted aboard the helicopter and transported to the emergency room.Milazzo hospital. The Vulcano carabinieri were present on site.
The intervention in the Zingaro Oriented Reserve
The second intervention, reported by the 118 Operations Centre, involved a 56 year old Croatian tourist, injured in the Zingaro Nature Reserve. He also had suffered a suspected broken left ankle due to one fell near the Weaving Museumin Contrada Sughero. After immobilizing him, the tourist was taken aboard the helicopter and transported to the emergency room.Trapani hospital. In the meantime, the CNSAS ground rescue team assisted and accompanied the woman who was with the injured tourist out of the Reserve.
