General Vannacci: “Europe has made us sad”

General Vannacci returns to Viterbo six months after the presentation of Il mondo converso. He shows up in the conference room of the Terme dei Papi more than an hour late, busy as he was, in the late afternoon, recording Porta a Porta.

He finds a full room waiting for him, not as full as the debut but the seats are all occupied. The invitation was made to him, last Wednesday as well as on November 23rd, by Senator Umberto Fusco, who coordinates the Tuscia committee in support of his candidacy.

Vannacci says he didn’t experience well the criticism that minister Guido Crosetto gave to his first book: “Farneticazioni”, said the head of the Defense Ministry. “I would have expected a more discreet way, dirty laundry is washed in the family. It was an attitude that disappointed me.” And his suspension, he claims, was only due to having “expressed views and opinions”. The TAR will decide on this aspect. And Vannacci broadens his gaze: “In Europe we are witnessing dismissals due to opinions that are not considered appropriate, this is where political correctness has brought us.”

Vannacci doesn’t like Europe: “It has made us all more insecure and sad. It is the Europe of banks, of massification, which prohibits saying ‘Merry Christmas’”. Instead, for him “the homeland must be defended, with everyone rallying around ideals and ready to die: I am against the concept of multiculturalism which undermines the concept of homeland”. We need “more identity: we don’t have almond-shaped eyes and we’re not black, we’re like that and it’s not a positive or negative fact.”
