On Saturday 8th, Saturday 15th and Saturday 22nd June, three visits are offered at the Sacro Monte in Varese to get to know “some artists who, during the twentieth century, were part of a season of artistic and religious renewal in the village of Santa Maria del Monte”. The proposals are organized by Archaeologistics, a social enterprise committed to the valorisation of cultural heritage, and “are aimed – we read in a press release – at narrating and promoting the themes of contemporary sacred art”. The protagonists will be those artists who, during the 20th century, interpreted the message of the Church, also leaving traces of it at the Sacro Monte. Trento Longaretti, Enrico Manfrini, Floriano Bodini: the first from Bergamo, the second from Romagna, the last from Varese, “they all played a significant role in the path of sacred art closest to us, responding to the message of the then Pope Paul VI who called artists to a renewed bond with the Church”.
On Saturday 8 June and Saturday 22 June at 5.15 pm, (at the end of the 4.00 pm mass so that the faithful can also participate) the guided tours will involve the small Church of the Annunciata, located next to the monastery of the Romite Ambrosiane and rarely open to visits.
On Saturday 15 June, the visit will start at 4.00 pm from the Casa Museo Pogliaghi, residence, laboratory and museum of the Milanese artist who created the door of the Milan Cathedral.
Reservation required. The visits are part of the “Contemporary Sacro Monte” project which sees the support of the Varesotto Community Foundation, the parish of Santa Maria del Monte and the Paolo VI Foundation for the Sacro Monte of Varese.
