Appeal from associations Together! Umbria against cancer: “Immediately establish the oncology network and revisit the treatment system”

“Today we are here – we read in a press note – to apologize to our representatives and their families since the objective that each association pursues individually and TOGETHER collegially, which is to improve the lives of the sick, has not to date produced those expected results despite the efforts and energy expended in these 4 years (for Insieme) of associative life and battles conducted in the interest of the sick
It immediately became clear – continues the note – that it was absolutely appropriate to effectively activate the Umbrian Regional Oncology Network, a necessary tool to guarantee the right to health for the entire regional community. There were numerous meetings, focuses and meetings in which professionals and volunteers generously wanted to participate. We have collected and represented the requests of professionals, given voice to those who had never had one and contributed to highlighting a situation in Umbrian healthcare which still appears to be struggling and behind on the answers that patients expect and need and also law.
Equally consistent and continuous are the discussions with the highest authorities of the Umbria Region, the sole interlocutor on health matters, which however have not been followed up, at the moment, by any concrete action that could indicate a certain date for the departure of the UMBRIAN ONCOLOGY NETWORK.
In a recent meeting it was discussed that this activation could be imminent and also with a ready organizational chart. We hope that this can be achieved in the shortest possible time so that the Network produces benefits for patients and their families.
We will continue – concludes the note – to monitor and prod those who have to decide, so that these decisions produce beneficial effects and have a profound impact on the health of the sick, leading, or rather bringing our Region back to being an example and destination for those who want to get well.
As regards the University, in the limited areas of competence that concern it, a constant continues
and active discussion which has never been lacking and which we hope will never be lacking.”
