The municipal council of Montepulciano approved last May 30th the executive project with which extraordinary maintenance and consolidation works will be carried out on the school buildings, through the reinforcement of the floors, in the E. De Amicis primary school and nursery school of Montepulciano capital, in the property located in Via Primo Maggio. The intervention, involving a total expense of 230 thousand euros, was financed with an application of the administration surplus, ratified in the municipal council of 17 April 2024; this is to allow the work to be carried out immediately after the end of lessons, in the summer period, so as to be able to return the schools in time for the start of the new school year.
In the same variation, a further and similar intervention was financed which concerns the structural consolidation of the G. Pascoli Middle School for a total of €200,259.68. Considering that part of the intervention falls within the secondary schools of the San Bellarmino Institute of provincial competence, the Province of Siena will participate in the intervention for a sum corresponding to 33.34% of the total amount of the works, equal therefore to €66,766.57 (with the sum of €133,493.11 remaining the responsibility of the municipality). Also in this case, the works are expected to be completed in time for the resumption of school activities.
The interventions in the school buildings mentioned above consist in the creation of steel reinforcements (for nursery and primary) and carbon fiber (Pascoli/San Bellarmino) in certain and specific areas of the buildings, capable of guaranteeing better static stability of the floors, as required by current regulations. Ensuring that school buildings are safe and well maintained represents a strategic and necessary choice to maximize the safety of students, teachers and school staff.
