CRASH IN GROSSETO, TWO MILITARY DIES

Four injured: the victims are Lieutenant Riccardo Latino from Matino and Marshal Francesco Antonio Guglielmucci from Matera

The tragic result of the collision between two cars on the state road near the military airport of Grosseto, home of the 4th Fighter Wing, is that two Air Force soldiers died and four others were injured. The Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Squadron General Luca Goretti, on behalf of all the personnel, «joins in pain and condolences the families of the two deceased soldiers, Lieutenant Riccardo Latino and First Marshal Francesco Antonio Guglielmucci both in service at the 36 Fighter Wing of Gioia del Colle (Bari)”. The other four injured Air Force soldiers were on board one of the two vehicles involved: they were immediately taken to nearby area hospitals. «The dynamics of the accident are not known at the moment – ​​we read in a note – The people involved in the accident are all soldiers of the Air Force, on a mission to the Grosseto base for training activities being carried out in recent days». Among the injured, three were hospitalized in code 3, i.e. red, at the Siena hospital where they were transferred by air ambulance: they are 53, 35 and 30 years old. The fourth injured person, less seriously, is a 25-year-old taken by ambulance to Grosseto hospital. Lieutenant Riccardo Latino and 1st Marshal Francesco Antonio Guglielmucci lost their lives in the accident: they were driving the two cars that collided according to what has been learned. The soldiers involved in the accident, which occurred around 8.40 am, were sleeping in the quarters of Marina di Grosseto where the officers’ club of the Fourth Wing base in Grosseto is located. From what emerged it seems that Latino, who was alone in the car, was returning towards Marina di Grosseto to retrieve something from his accommodation. Riccardo Latino, 25 years old, was originally from Matino, in the province of Lecce. The Air Force soldier belonged to the 36th Fighter Wing which is based in Gioia del Colle (Bari), as did the other victim Francesco Antonio Guglielmucci, originally from Matera and president of the Polisportiva Rocco Scotellaro. «I express my feelings of closeness and deep condolences to the families of Lieutenant Riccardo Latino and 1st Marshal Francesco Antonio Guglielmucci, who tragically passed away today in a road accident. My deepest condolences to the Air Force to which the two soldiers belonged.” The Undersecretary of State for Defense, Isabella Rauti, wrote this in a note. «Deep condolences to the families and closest loved ones of Lieutenant Riccardo Latino and First Marshal Francesco Antonio Guglielmucci, both belonging to the 36th Fighter Wing of the Air Force, tragically involved in a road accident in Grosseto, where they lost their lives».
