Over one hundred university scholarships awarded in Calabria by the John R.Mott Scholarship Foundation, Inc for the 23rd anniversary

Of the 300 candidates who applied, 105 scholarships were awarded to the most deserving students, whose names we indicate in the attachment. Those awarded by the Foundation for the year 2024, together with the Board of Directors composed of the president Benjamin L.Palumbo, Michael Mirabelli, Dr. Maria Chiara Arella, Mary Caruso, Joseph W.Cerrel and Denise DeConcimi, met in the conference room of the Tirrenian resort in Amantea to celebrate the 23rd Anniversary.
Giovanni Motta, born in Serra D’Aiello, Calabria, emigrated to the United States with his family at the beginning of the 20th century. He attended high school but was unable to support his studies due to his family’s father working in the coal mines. He made enormous sacrifices, working tirelessly himself and obtaining a degree at the age of 30. He later started a successful business but did not forget Calabria and the young people less fortunate than him.
For millions of Italian Americans, the United States of America has been a nearly inexhaustible source of opportunity and freedom. Yet today, Calabria—the home of more Italian Americans than any other region—continues to struggle to improve its economic situation.
Fortunately, these efforts are now strengthened by the contributions of a growing number of highly educated young men and women. Thanks to the tireless work and foresight of Calabria’s son, John R. Mott, Calabria’s most deserving youth are acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary to develop the dormant potential of this region.
To date, the John R. Mott Foundation has awarded scholarships to nearly 2,500 students residing in Calabria. A truly meritorious achievement. The satisfaction of the awardees and their families is uncontainable.
