A bad fall led to the neutralization of the fifth stage of the Tour of Dauphiné, the race that traditionally precedes the Tour de France. About twenty kilometers from the end of today’s hamlet numerous cyclists found themselves stranded due to the wet asphalt made particularly slippery by the rain. Therefore, given the high number of athletes involved in the mass fall, and the insufficiency of ambulances following the race, the organizers were forced to neutralize the times, not taking into account the gaps with which the cyclists will reach the finish line of the Amplapuis – Saint Priest, a mountain stage that could have changed the ranking of the Criterium du Dauphiné.
History repeats itself
To have been involvedamong the many who ended up on the ground suddenly losing control of their bicycle as if there was soap on the asphalt, there are also two big names like Remko Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic, first and second respectively (33 seconds behind) in the general classification. Especially now we will have to see the consequences that the two will have suffered from the accident, close to important events such as the Tour and the Olympics. Moreover Evenepoel and Roglic were involved in another terrible fall at the last Tour of the Basque Country, recovering from injuries that kept them sidelined for several weeks. In that case, another champion, Jonas Vingegaard, came out the worstwho also fractured his pelvis, and who now hopes to be able to live up to his name at the next Grand Boucle.
