Aversa (Caserta) – Two days before the vote, news is circulating of ongoing investigations by the Prosecutor’s Office into alleged trafficking of electoral cards by candidates of a coalition, who have already been heard by the Financial Police, and of complaints against another candidate from the same coalition for alleged “buying and selling” of votes within the public housing of Aversa north.

Center-left mayoral candidate Mauro Baldascino intervenes on the delicate topic. “These are facts, if true, of enormous gravity – he declares – which signal possible attempts to massively pollute the electoral competition. The popular neighborhoods of the city are, due to their social fragility, the most exposed to illicit electoral pressure and illegal conditioning.”

The mayoral candidate raises the alarm. “In these hours – continues Baldascino – it is necessary to monitor in these neighborhoods any possible illegal behavior of candidates in influencing the free expression of citizens’ votes. Just as in the two days of the vote, it will be necessary to avoid any possible and indecent siege of groups of people and candidates who intercept voters who go to the polling station to exert illicit pressure until the last second”.

Finally, Baldascino’s appeal: “We therefore ask the Prefect, the Police Commissioner, all the police forces and all the institutions, to guarantee the regular and democratic conduct of the elections, in particular, as has already happened in the past, to monitor outside the polling stations so that there are no people who stop and talk to voters in the free exercise of the vote, guaranteeing a strengthened security garrison adequate to the serious alarm that the press reports raise”.
