I’m going Ligurian. Monitoring resumed at the beginning of May CIMA Foundation achieves thanks to constant support from Corsica Sardinia Ferrieson the Vado Ligure/Bastia and Nizza/Bastia routes (the YELLOW CARES Eco-Program is available here).

There eighteenth monitoring season it began with a sighting that immediately thrilled the 5 researchers on board: a small group of common dolphins.

This species, contrary to what its name suggests, is now very rare, especially in the Ligurian Sea, and its sighting raises hope for a possible return.

In the first ones six trips in the month of Maythey were at least 15 The whale sightingsespecially on the Nice/Bastia route, and beyond 20 groups of dolphins they were spotted throughout the monitored area.

“On the Vado Ligure/Bastia route the presence of a small group of beaked whales confirms the attraction of this species for the Savona-Vado canyon area, which is the ideal habitat for them. This stretch of sea is one of the most important areas (hotspots) for the beaked whale in the Mediterranean” he states Paola Tepsichresearcher at the CIMA Foundation.

This year, thanks to the project LIFE CONCEPTU MARIScitizens will be able to take part in monitoring outings and become researchers for a day.

In fact, starting from June, citizens who applied on the project site will begin to board the Yellow Ships, contributing to the activities of the researchers, who will show them the techniques and the habitat.

It also continues officer training: during the next embarkations, the researchers will deliver the certificates of passing the course on “Monitoring of Biodiversity and Collision Risk”, to the most virtuous ships of the company, where all the deck staff have precise and complete training on the species that inhabit the Mediterranean.

“For many years, the crews of Corsica Sardinia Ferries have enthusiastically welcomed research and training initiatives, becoming an active part of the monitoring and fundamental allies for the conservation of the Pelagos Sanctuary” he states Paola Tepsichresearcher at the CIMA Foundation.

“Corsica Sardinia Ferries is increasingly Green Oriented and is aware of the importance of the sea and its health, which is why it works daily to reduce its ecological footprint and preserve the Mediterranean, its ecosystem and its precious biodiversity” he states Cristina PizzuttiHead of Communications and Marketing of the Company.

“Our ships are real floating laboratories, which participate in the collective effort for the defense of the sea”.

The Company is one of the main interlocutors of Research Institutions, which it has supported for over 18 years in monitoring, study, training and analysis projects.
