Waste remains a particularly sensitive issue in Latina, especially when walking around the city it is not difficult to come across real examples of incivility with abandoned waste and piles of rubbish. Situations that occur especially in the areas close to the center where there are bins.
Today’s news is the signing – which actually happened yesterday – of the agreement between the Municipality of Latina and the Vigiles association for environmental guards. In fact, the association will carry out awareness-raising, surveillance and monitoring activities in the municipal area regarding abandonment and incorrect disposal of waste. The document was signed in the presence of the Environment Councilor Franco Addonizio, the manager Gian Pietro De Biaggio and the president of the Vigiles association Emiliano Ciotti.
The convention
“As a result of the selection procedure launched by the Municipality of Latina through a public notice – explained the councilor Franco Addonizio – the Vigiles association was identified which will lend its collaboration for the year 2024 through a surveillance action on the territory which will complement the work carried out by municipal staff. The environmental guards, in particular, will deal with awareness-raising, information, as well as prevention and possible repression of environmental crimes with particular reference to the correct disposal of waste”.
The next phases include the mandatory training of environmental guards by the local police of Latina, assisted by the environmental inspectors of the Special Agency for the Common Goods of Latina. At the end of the courses, the volunteers identified by the Vigiles association will acquire the title of “environmental inspectors” and will be ready to begin activities in the municipal area on a voluntary basis and free of charge. A reimbursement of expenses is foreseen for the activities carried out by the association documented to the Municipality. The agreement is valid until 31 December 2024.
The question time on environmental guards
During this morning’s question time, councilor Gianluca Di Cocco reported on behalf of the councilor for the Environment Franco Addonizio in response to the question presented by councilors Dario Bellini, Damiano Coletta, Floriana Coletta and Loretta Isotton concerning “Demonstration of interest of 4 January 2024 for the identification of environmental guards”. The response to the question summarized the steps that led to the signing of the agreement, signed by the Municipality of Latina and the Vigiles association, which took place yesterday.
