Pistoia, metalworking drives industrial production with +8.6%

PISTOIA – The multi-sector industrial fabric of Pistoia manages to generate compensating dynamics, so much so that, despite some particularly negative performances, in the 1st quarter of 2024, compared to the same period of the previous year, a final figure essentially in balance was achieved, + 0.3%.

TO tow the metalworking system, whose further growth, at +8.6%, remains mainly, but not exclusively, linked to the transport sector and its related activities. Also positive were the production of paper (+4.5%) and food (+2.9%).

Daniele Matteini, president of Confindustria Toscana Nord

The negative data comes from chemicals-plastics with -3%, from furniture-mattresses with -4.7% but above all from fashion, which in comparison with the same quarter of 2023 shows performances of around -10/11%. In detail, footwear recorded -9.8%, still an improvement compared to the national figure, -10.6% for textiles, -11.3% for clothing-knitwear.

“It is precisely the situation of the fashion sector, which also characterizes the province of Pistoia, that heavily influences the final overall figure; a sector, however, that believes in its own resources and potential, as demonstrated by recent orientation initiatives such as the project “My future is in fashion. In mechanics, especially linked to the transport sector, the teamwork ability of the companies aggregated under the Ditecfer umbrella has also been rewarded, which in recent years has become not only the main railway district in Italy but also the most dynamic in European level. As president of Ditecfer, I announce that the top leaders of politics, industry and research will soon be attending Pistoia to celebrate 10 years since its establishment” adds the president of Confindustria Toscana Nord Daniele Matteini.

Overall, the manufacturing sector in the Lucca-Pistoia-Prato area recorded a production level in the 1st quarter of 2024 with a minimal decline compared to the same period in 2023: -1.2%as attested by the findings of the Confindustria Toscana Nord Study Center.
