CATANIA – The chase, the crash and the seizure of cocaine. The soldiers of the Catania Financial Police arrested a 50-year-old man from Messina after a short chase which ended with an accident near a motorway toll booth and an attempt to escape on foot.
The pursuit
The man was noticed by the financiers of the Acireale company after having done the same route several times. At the motorway toll booth the finance men stopped him, but the fifty-year-old ignored the halt and ran away towards Acicastello, starting a chase which ended with a crash after a few metres.
After an attempt to escape on foot, the man was stopped and searched by the police, who found a plastic bag with white powder and a bottle with a liquid product. Analysis by the Customs and Monopolies Agency established that the powder was cocaine weighing approximately 100 grams, while the liquid was poppers, a drug consisting mainly of alkyl nitrites.
The fifty-year-old, with a history of drug trafficking and dealingcarrying and illegal possession of weapons and crimes against the person, was arrested and taken to the Catania prison in Piazza Lanza.
