NAPLES – “Federconsumatori Campania, which has always been committed to protecting the rights of citizens, expresses strong concern about the story of little Pamela, who has had an artificial heart at Monaldi for over a year, says Giovanni Berritto, president of Federconsumatori Campania.
“The parents had requested the transfer to another transplant center months ago, as they believed that the little girl was not being looked after with due attention”, continues Carlo Spirito, the Federconsumatori lawyer who personally dealt with the matter. “Pamela had in fact suffered serious clinical episodes, symptomatic of probable mismanagement of the machine, in the absence, moreover, of a specifically dedicated protected area.”
“The transfer was denied, but months later, thanks to the intervention of Federconsumatori’s lawyers, it emerged that the little girl, who in the meantime suffered very serious damage, could and should have been included in the emergency list some time ago,” explains Berritto. “We wonder why the team, which in fact decided to include it on the national emergency list, met only after the solicitation of the lawyers.”
“This terrible story is becoming more complicated because the company, after more than 10 days, despite having agreed on the urgent transfer, has not yet completed the transfer of the little girl to another transplant center,” underlines the president. “The reasons for this very serious delay are not understood which could, among other things, lead to a loss of survival opportunities for the little girl.”
“It is hoped that all health institutions will collaborate to guarantee the immediate transfer, in the best interests of the health and survival of the little patient,” concludes Berritto. “We have finally received reassurance that the long-awaited transfer is finally about to be carried out. It is hoped that words will be followed by actions.”
