A truck falls from the overpass onto the Sassari-Alghero: the dramatic road accident occurred at the junction for Bancali around 11 this morning. The heavy vehicle flew several tens of meters, crashing violently into the trees below. The intervention of the rescuers was timely, including the Areus air ambulance and an ambulance. Despite this, however, there was nothing that could be done for the driver of the truck. The man died shortly after impact with the ground.
Meanwhile, the police are apparently collecting testimonies from those who witnessed the terrible scene, to try to reconstruct the dynamics of what happened. According to initial information, the driver was a 65 year old man who worked for a Lombard transport company. Initially he would have been conscious and would have answered the rescuers’ questions. Then unfortunately his condition worsened in a short time. And resuscitation attempts proved futile.
The dynamics of the accident are yet to be reconstructed. It seems, however, that the driver lost control of the vehicle and that the truck skidded to the right, first hitting the guardrail and then falling off the bridge. Meanwhile, local authorities have launched an investigation to establish the exact causes of the accident.
