Mortal accident around noon today on Gela-Scoglitti. To lose your life a cyclist who was moving in a group with others. It seems that the group came from Mazzarrone.
The dynamics of what happened is not yet clear, but it seems that an Iveco truck was hit at least two of the cyclists, and then stopped the march on the guardrail that delimits the road. One of the two-wheel enthusiasts remained on the ground, but did not lose consciousness; the other first crashed into the front window of the truck and then literally flew over the iron fence of private land and lost his life in a few moments. Even though he was wearing a protective helmet, the impact was very violent and there was nothing he could do.
The injured man was transported by a 118 ambulance to Vittoria hospital. There appears to be no life-threatening danger.

Raffaele Mazza is the cyclist hit and killed by the Iveco truck. Mazza, 70 years old, had worked as a bank employee and had a strong passion for cycling.
Meanwhile, the Parishes of Mazzarrone announce: “after receiving the tragic news of the road accident, where dear brother Raffaele Mazza lost his life, the Inter-parish Pastoral Council has decided to postpone the Feast of the Sacred Heart to a later date. We all embrace the Mazza families with great affection, praying to the Lord of life to be their support and comfort in this moment of great suffering.” The parish priest Don Lucio Gatto made the note.
