Rome, 4 June 2024 – There is also Marcello Colafigli, one of the historical promoters of Magliana bandamong the 28 recipients of a precautionary custody order in the context of aanti-drug operation in the provinces of Rome, Naples, Foggia and Viterbo. The order, issued by the investigating judge of Rome, was carried out at the first light of dawn by the carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of the Provincial Command of Rome under the coordination of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate.
At 28 people – 11 recipients of the measure of precautionary custody in prison, 16 of the measure of house arrest and one of the obligation to sign -, the crimes of association aimed at international drug traffickingattempted robbery in conspiracy, attempted extortion in competition, receiving stolen goods and illegal possession of weapons, failure to comply with a sentence and aiding and abetting.

The investigations, launched by the Carabinieri of the Rome Investigative Unit and directed by the Rome DDA in June 2020, made it possible to collect serious circumstantial elements regarding the existence of a criminal associationwith a logistics base in the capital and operating in the Magliana area and on the Lazio coast, headed by one of the historical promoters of the so-called “Banda della Magliana”, Marcello Colafigli That, despite being on semi-freedomhad managed to plan the sales and purchases of large quantities of narcotic substances from abroad (Spain and Colombia), maintaining relationships with exponents of the ‘ndrangheta, the Camorra, the Foggia mafia and with Albanians included in a South American narcos cartel.
Marcello Colafigli was recognized together with Franco Giuseppucci, Enrico De Pedis, Maurizio Abbatino and Nicolino Selis, as one of the promoters of the criminal group known as the Banda della Magliana. Burdened with multiple life sentences, he was condemned, among other things, for the kidnapping and murder of Duke Massimo Grazioli Lante della Rovere (considered the action with which the Gang began its criminal activity) and the murder, as principal, by Enrico De Pedis.
The investigating judge: “Exceptional aptitude for crime”
An “exceptional criminal aptitude”. And again: “Ease of maintaining ties with prominent criminal figures but, even more so, from the imperviousness to the thirty-year period of imprisonment as neither the character nor the knowledge of the criminal dynamics in the Roman and national territory has changed.” This is how the investigating judge of Rome describes the figure of Colafigli, historic exponent of Magliana returned to prison today as part of an investigation by the DDA in Piazzale Clodio, coordinated by the deputies Giovanni Musarò and Francesco Minisci.
Colafigli, known as ‘Marcellone‘, he was under semi-freedom. “As soon as he was admitted to carrying out work outside the prison, taking advantage of the cover offered to him by the manager of the cooperative – adds the investigating judge in the order against 28 people -, he organised, in a short time, a significant number of cocaine imports and hashish, in large quantities and with very clever methods both in devising the transfer of the money to the Colombian suppliers and in the transport of the narcotic, exploiting Italian and foreign channels and planning, finally, to flee abroad with the criminal proceeds, in the near future future through the use of false documents”. Furthermore, the suspect “easily set up, directed and coordinated the criminal group made up of completely reliable and non-improvised individuals, with a stable logistical base, having secure import channels (Colombian, Spanish, Albanian, Italian) and a vast audience of individuals (some with proven and obvious criminal capacity) extremely loyal to Colafigli, recognized as a very authoritative criminal”.
