An illness on the beach of Campo nell’Elba and the intervention of two swimmers present on the beach, including Andrea Politi from Cremona, a 31-year-old video maker from ProCremona and martial arts instructor.
We are on the beach of Secchetto when suddenly a man, a fifty-year-old tourist, feels ill and collapses. Among the screams and panic of those present, the lifeguard Marlene Canovaro and the Cremonese Andrea Politi rush in, who recently completed a first aid course just a few weeks ago and who is not found unprepared for the emergency. They, together with a doctor from 118 from Forlì who was on holiday on the island, were the first to rush to provide aid to the man while waiting for the ambulance to intervene.
“I heard the screams coming from the beach – as Politi declared to the newspaper ‘Il Tirreno’ – a tourist felt ill. Maybe a stroke. He had convulsions and couldn’t breathe on his own, and in a short time he lost consciousness.”.
Without thinking too much, our fellow citizen immediately put into practice the maneuvers learned in the first aid course: “We put the man in the recovery position and, after we realized that he wasn’t breathing on his own, we started massaging him. The man’s wife herself gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. All this for four cycles of massage It was hard, but after about eight minutes the man started breathing again on his own, the worst was over at that point” Politi told the newspaper again.
In the meantime, the staff of the Italian Red Cross and the staff of the Pegaso air ambulance arrived and took charge of the tourist and transported him to the hospital under yellow code.
The man was transported to the emergency room under yellow code, therefore his life was not in danger. Thanks to the prompt intervention of those present, including ‘our’ Andrea Politi, who did not hesitate to make themselves available by saving the tourist.
