Viterbo – We receive and publish – “We defend workers and listen to citizens. And we are proud of this. Contrary to the mayor Chiara Frontini who offends workers and the dignity of their families, and does not listen to citizens. And she should be anything but proud of the words she says.” Thus the general secretary of Uil, Giancarlo Turchetti, regarding the statements made by the mayor on 26 September last year during dinner at the home of councilor Marco Bruzziches.
“We are then evaluating with our law firm – adds the general secretary of Uil – whether or not to proceed with legal action”. “Certain words that were addressed to me – continues Turchetti -, just as they were addressed to other people or to municipal workers, are decidedly inappropriate, first of all for the role that Frontini plays. A role that, sooner or later, he should realize. For the good of the city.”
“After that – continues Turchetti – the distinction that Frontini makes between a public event and a private dinner, which he has repeatedly reiterated to justify other contexts and other embarrassing statements, is absolutely futile. In fact, we would like to remind the mayor that, when you are away from the spotlight, you are usually even more authentic.”
“What I said about the historic center of Viterbo – continues Turchetti -, not only do I repeat it, but it is also what the people of Viterbo think, what people told us and tell us when they turn to the union and our services”.
“With regards to the statements on the relationship between the union and Alessandra Troncarelli, candidate for mayor in 2022 as opposed to Frontini, on the one hand we want to remind the mayor that Uil is a non-partisan, secular and reformist union and on the other that each of the Our members are free to think as they want and to vote for whoever they want. Uil is a democratic organization. And there’s no arguing about this. And we are very clear about this.”
“On the bargaining front – comments Turchetti -, another issue raised by Frontini, we opposed it because everything that concerns workers must be negotiated and discussed with the trade union organisations. We will never accept decisions made from above. Just as we will never, ever accept that municipal workers are considered by the mayor to be ‘human material to be thrown away’ or ‘plagues’. For us, workers are people and a fundamental resource of the administration. A resource that allows the municipality to move forward and the mayor to do her job. Mayor who should think about doing her job well. But this depends on you, and the results so far have certainly not been the best.”
