Endnotes for the “Music First” competition

The “Music First” competition has come to an end. Last Saturday in Bressanone the final notes of the competition which in the 2024 edition saw the participation of over a thousand musicians from Austria, Alto Adige and Liechtenstein, more than 5 thousand visitors in attendance and 20 thousand in live streaming. Peter Hofmayer, director of the “Musik der Jugend”, underlined the cross-border aspect of the competition: “It was particularly nice to be a guest in South Tyrol this year and it was nice to see that, in addition to the musical competition, there is always one interpersonal exchange between musicians”.
Prize haul for the 77 young musicians from South Tyrol: 20 in the solo category and 17 in the ensembles.
Livia Bertagnolli, director of the “Vivaldi” music school, said she was enthusiastic about the event: “I congratulate the excellent organisation, gained over years of experience, but also confirmed year after year by the quality of the performances. In particular, the prima la musica competition is a special event that highlights the importance of music in the education of young people, promoting excellence and passion for music”. Marco Bronzi, new director of the “Monteverdi” Conservatory, underlined that “competitions at a youth level are a great stimulus both for the most talented and ambitious kids and for those who already glimpse the desire to undertake a professional career”.
Hans Peter Stifter, director of the Brixen Music School, clarified that “the role of the Brixen music school was to support the general organization of the event. Programming began in June 2022 and has become increasingly intense over the past few months and weeks. All done in parallel with the teaching which he continued normally: this was the real challenge”. Alexandra Pedrotti, director of the Provincial Division of the German and Ladin Music School, reiterated the quality of the musical performances, some of which reached a truly high artistic level given the age groups. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the participants who prepared excellently for the competition, the music teachers from South Tyrol, Austria and Liechtenstein for their careful supervision and the families who supported the children and boys in the best possible way in this long journey.”
