The new Foggia is born: clear ideas on the market

FOGGIA – Less than a week until the green light on July 1st: the transfer market is now the dominant theme in Foggia too. The Rossoneri club is preparing, with ambition and a desire to relaunch, for the 2024/25 Serie C championship. The objective is to set up a team capable of bringing the city back among the protagonists of the tournament, with the hope that at the end of the season the return to Serie B can materialise.

The technical area has been revolutionized: the sporting direction of the club has been entrusted to the former Messina Domenico Roma; on the bench will sit Massimo Brambilla, a coach who in the last two seasons has obtained brilliant results in Lega Pro at the helm of Juventus Next Gen, after the championships and trophies won with the youth teams of Atalanta.

Now the company of president Nicola Canonico can focus on setting up the new team. It starts with a base of 12 players under contract. Someone like Salines (the defender bomber) has requests from clubs in B and C like Milan Under 23. The physical condition of others will have to be evaluated: Carrillo and Marzupio, for example, are recovering from cruciate surgery. The linchpin of the new team will be the attacking midfielder Millico, who before the end of the championship renewed his contract until 2026.

Regardless of how many reconfirmations there will actually be, reinforcements are needed in all departments, from goal to attack. At the moment Perina is the only goalkeeper in the squad. We therefore need another pair of extreme defenders, one of whom is at least equal to the former Monopoli in terms of skill and experience. Grafts also necessary in defense, midfield and attack. The front line seems to be the department most destined to change its face. The first names of the players on the Rossoneri club’s list are starting to circulate. The intention is to support Millico with other top strikers – both center forwards and wingers – for Serie C, reliable in terms of experience and quality.

In the sights of the Dauno club, for the role of central striker (Brambilla could deploy the new Foggia with the 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-3 game system), there is the Argentine Facundo Lescano, 27 years old, a bomber who last season scored 16 goals in Serie C with Triestina, and also reached double figures in previous seasons, with Pescara (19 goals), Entella (10), Sambenedettese (12) and Sicula Leonzio (11). Among the alternatives considered by Foggia are Alfredo Donnarumma (last seasons in Serie B with Brescia, Ternana and Catanzaro) and Salvatore Caturano (who could separate from Potenza), both born in ’90. Also for the attack, Foggia likes Nicola Valente, an offensive winger born in ’91, who from 2020 to last January played for Palermo, in Serie C and B, then from February of this year for Padova.

For the midfield, however, among the objectives of the «Satanelli» is the 26 year old Samuele Damiani, 25 appearances and 4 goals last season with Juve Next Gen. Valente and Damiani are two of Brambilla’s requests in terms of signings. The Foggia market is therefore ready to take off, while the first phase of the «Satanelli» pre-season retreat will be held in Calabria, in San Giovanni in Fiore (Cosenza), from 19 July to 2 August (meeting on 16 July).
